A problem with everyone is fixation on temporary experiences. This is because
everyone has minds and this is the primary limitation of the mind. The mind
can only comprehend the temporary. The mind cannot comprehend what is eternal.
So, as long as we operate from the mind alone, our happiness can only be derived from the senses. Unfortunately for those that like to live in the mind, the senses cannot be kept happy perpetually. Even the acquisition of knowledge is through the senses. So, even the most addicted bookworm or computer fanatic cannot be absorbed in the object of his/her attention eternally. This quest for perpetual, non-stop happiness is a hopeless one for the mind to achieve alone. It is no wonder why unhappiness is experienced by so many.
This issue of unhappiness is basically a philosophical one. Philosophically, if your happiness is based on something that you can experience only part of the time, then you can never be happy all of the time. If you make the inner choice to base your happiness on something beyond the physical laws, then such metaphysical happiness can breach the temporary and launch yourself into the Eternal. Because of this, love is the most intuitively sought after commodity in the universe. Everyone needs and deserves love.
The paradox of love is that the mind can never comprehend it. It is a soulful and heart-felt experience and lifestyle. Regardless of the mind, and even in spite of the mind, love can continue to exist and even flourish. This is because love is not a psychological experience- it is deeper then that. Love is not a subject that can be taught; love can only be experienced. Furthermore, it is impossible to describe love to one who has never experienced it. If the communicator is coming from a loving place, then it is possible for love to be shared when both parties are open.
One who places priority on loving for the sake of love alone is a spiritual person. Such a person puts the inner spirit before that which can be measured by the mind.
Most of the world is comprised of materialists who place priority on outer
measurements and value love as a condition of acquisition. Such people are
turned outward; and may be unaware of their inner wealth.
