Materialism is misunderstood, just as its apparent opposite, spirituality, is also misunderstood.
First, for the record because there are so many fans of materialism, it should be stated that the shift between materialism and spirituality could be very subtle.
Materialism is the un-empowered state of seeking completion by chasing after material, physical things; things that can be quantified by our senses. This common approach to living is inherently weak because it assumes that we lack something and need something to be happy. By shifting the power to the outside, it is also surrendering the power from the inside.
Spirituality has many vocal individuals that claim to know what it is all about. Just like any subject, there are many who fall short of the mark and give the area a bad name in general. Simple put, it is easy to be spiritual if you take the approach that you already have everything and you lack nothing. This attitude is best accompanied by an inner experience that validates this way of thinking, but the basic premise does not conflict with the fruits of materialism.
To have the inner confidence that everything is well within reach, creates a balance within that allows full enjoyment of the physical experience in a way that does not detract or create an unsettlement of the mind.
Unlock your inner universe.
